Maple Sap Collecting

Maple-Themed Trivia Night
7-8 p.m., Bloomfield’s Tavern
We’re hosting a trivia night at Bloomfield’s and the topic is maple-themed—maple syrup, maple sap, maple candy, cooking with maple, maple history, etc., etc.—you get it! $5 buy-in per team (max. 5 people per team), half the pot goes to the winning team, the other half benefits town revitalization projects.

Pancake Breakfast
7-10 a.m., Tewksbury Hall, Skowhegan Island
Featuring locally sourced foods including homemade whole-grain pancakes, Somerset County maple syrup, free-range sausage, fresh fruit, and local coffee, tea, cider, and milk. $6 for adults, $4 for children 12 and under.

50/50 Raffle
7 a.m.-2 p.m.
Benefiting revitalization efforts in Skowhegan. Purchase tickets at the breakfast 7-10 a.m. and at Madlyn’s New and Used Clothing.

Maple Leaf Hunt
9-3 p.m., Downtown
Pick up a checklist at the Bankery (87 Water St.), search for maple leaves, colored by North Elementary students, hidden in downtown businesses, and turn in your completed list to be entered into a drawing for a prize.

Maple Madness Basketball Tournament
9 a.m.-4 p.m., Skowhegan Area High School & Skowhegan Area Middle School
Middle school teams from across the state to be the ‘sweetest’ champion.

Chez Londorf Maple Open House
9 a.m.-4 p.m., Chez Londorf, Burrill Hill Rd.

Maple Marshmallow Roasting
10 a.m.-2 p.m., Municipal Lot
Roast your own maple flavored marshmallow over a warm open fire.

Cornhole Tournament
10 a.m.-2 p.m., Municipal Lot
Test your aim with Skowhegan Parks & Recreation during the cornhole tournament.

Fat Bike Demo
10 a.m.-2 p.m., Municipal Lot
Take a spin a fat bike from Mathieu’s Cycle & Fitness. They’ll suit you up and send you out for a test drive loop!

Yoke Obstacle Course
10 a.m.-2 p.m., Municipal Lot
Do you have what it takes to carry a yoke with two, full, 5-gallon buckets of sap? Test your backcountry sap-collecting skills on a short obstacle course consisting of twists, turns, and a barrage of tires.

The Sap and Syrup Shuttle
10 a.m.-2 p.m., Municipal Lot
Hop on the Sap and Syrup Shuttle in downtown Skowhegan to visit Tessier’s Farm, and Smith Brothers Maple, for all things maple. This free shuttle starts in the Municipal lot and passengers hop on and off to check out Skowhegan’s maple houses. Thank you, Poland Bus Service, for providing this service to festival-goers.

Children’s Seed-Planting Activity
11 a.m.-2 p.m., Municipal Lot
Plant and take home your own springtime seedlings. Organized by Hospice Volunteers of Somerset County.  In case of inclement weather or extreme cold, this event will take place inside the Skowhegan Area Chamber of Commerce.

Live Chainsaw Carving Show
10 a.m.-2 p.m., Municipal Lot
Local chainsaw artist, Josh Landry, will be creating four carvings from start to finish. One carving will be raffled off at the end of the performance. Come watch as Josh Landry intricately turns logs into works of art.

Maple Syrup Demonstration
10 a.m.-2 p.m., Municipal Lot
The University of Maine Cooperative Extension for Somerset County will be educating festival-goers about the process of turning sap into syrup.

HooSkow Radio 
10 a.m.-2 p.m., Municipal Lot
Local radio station WXNZ 98.1 (HooSkow Radio) will be adding to the festival fun by spinning tunes and facilitating music-oriented kid activities.

Skowhegan Rotary Beer, Wine, and Food Tasting
5-7:30 p.m., Skowhegan Armory, 11 N. School St.
Organized by the Skowhegan Rotary Club. 21+ event. Tickets are $20 pre-purchased/$25 at the door and are available at Hammond Lumber, Franklin Savings Bank, and Bigelow Brewing Co. For more information see their Facebook event page.
