The Kneading Festival

A Piece of American History is Coming to Skowhegan

The Maine Historical Society is bringing its Dunlap Broadside version of the Declaration of Independence — one of only 26 surviving copies printed in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776 — to Skowhegan as part of a statewide tour across all 16 Maine counties.

September 25–26, 2026: Margaret Chase Smith Library, Skowhegan, Maine | Somerset County

The two-day stop will include public and student visitation, community celebrations, readings, and special events. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Somerset County residents to see this piece of living history without leaving home.
