Open Call: Lead Community Artist

Main Street Skowhegan is seeking a Lead Community Artist for its Community Planter Project, a collaborative public art initiative that will bring local schools, businesses, community organizations, and residents together to help create artwork for 6–8 planters throughout Skowhegan.

The selected artist will lead an inclusive community-engaged creative process, using workshops, conversations, and other activities to gather ideas and translate them into a cohesive artistic vision that reflects the people, places, and character of Skowhegan. The artist will then design and paint the planters using durable, weather-resistant materials, with opportunities for community members to participate in the creative process.

Artists at all stages of their careers are encouraged to apply. Applicants should demonstrate strong artistic ability, a collaborative approach, and an interest in working with youth and the broader community.

Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on September 30, 2026. The selected artist is expected to begin community engagement activities in November 2026, with installation planned for May 2027.
